The biblical word, “Evangelical” means “the good news”—specifically, the good news of the Christian gospel. It has been used to identify Christians who are bound together by their central concern for the gospel, while acknowledging varied expressions of faith in other matters.
Recently, many Evangelicals have been distancing themselves from the term due to sociological and political reasons. The term has become increasingly linked with divisive political rhetoric and the misconduct of certain church leaders who have stepped down amid financial or moral scandals.
However, Evangelicals represent a globally diverse community. Our church structure is characterized by a vast array of independent denominations and church networks. By gaining a deeper understanding of how evangelicalism manifests in different regions, we can strengthen unity within the body of Christ
This is why the WEA has started a series in understanding Evangelicalism partnering with Kirby Laing Centre. Key parts of this project are a global survey and a series of panel discussions that will further probe the current state of evangelicalism in different parts of the world.
Together, we are the church of Christ, united in our belief that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. We affirm that salvation is received solely through faith in Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and rose again. Through our personal conversion, we commit ourselves to advancing God's mission, fostering reconciliation between God and humanity
We invite you to learn more about evangelicalism through our past webinars.
