Youth Leadership Animators Pursue Bold Ideas

eight youth from across Canada designated as Youth Forum Leadership Animators

Last week, eight young leaders from across Canada convened in Calgary to initiate plans for a groundbreaking youth presence at the United Church's General Council 45 next year. As The United Church of Canada celebrates its Centennial, a bold target has been set: to bring together 100 young people under 30, with a minimum of 50% representing racialized and Indigenous communities. These passionate young leaders are dedicated to empowering their peers and ensuring their voices are central to shaping the church's future. Read the full news story.

Lift Up Emancipation Day In Your Worship Service!

Fist clenched

Emancipation Day is marked on August 1 across many of the countries of the former British Empire. Emancipation Day commemorates the date in 1834 when the Slavery Abolition Act came into effect for most British colonies, freeing enslaved children under the age of six and their descendants.

The first Sunday in August (this year, Sunday, August 4, 2024) is celebrated as Emancipation Sunday in The United Church of Canada. Take a look at our worship resources for Emancipation Sunday and lift up this day in your worship service.

Mission and Service Stories: Building Community through an Afterschool Program

Children at The Tomken Grove Afterschool Program

“I’m going to sleep here!” Amarah, aged 6, threatens from under the table when it’s pickup time at the Tomken Grove Afterschool Program. This is not an uncommon occurrence, as every Tuesday at 6:30, the children feel that two hours together is not enough. The Tomken Grove Afterschool Program aims to encourage community among local children.

Your gifts through Mission and Service help programs like this as they encourage community and connection.
