Remembering Bishop Carlton P. Minnick | | RALEIGH, N.C. — Retired United Methodist Bishop Carlton P. Minnick, 96, died on May 4. He was a pastor and district superintendent in the Virginia Conference, then an episcopal leader in Mississippi and North Carolina. He served a term as president of the Council of Bishops. In retirement, he was bishop-in-residence at Duke Divinity School. UM News is preparing a feature obituary.

He served as top executive of the denomination’s General Council on Ministries from 1986 to 2000 and also served on the World Methodist Council executive board.

Staff at The Upper Room cut | | NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Seven staff positions at The Upper Room are being eliminated due to financial challenges, the United Methodist Board of Discipleship Ministries has announced. The move, along with retirements, will save the agency $1.4 million annually. The Rev. Kimberly Orr, publisher of The Upper Room, announced earlier in the week that she was leaving. “These are difficult decisions necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of The Upper Room’s ministries,” said Jeff Campbell, top executive of Discipleship Ministries. “We are committed to supporting all affected staff during this transition and are deeply grateful for their service.” | | | | |
