“We are in a smaller space – but we are in a space big enough for God to occupy,” said Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, WCCC general secretary, opening the prayer service. “May our space in this new building be a place in which we come to see God present in our lives, in the lives of others, and in the work of the World Council of Churches.” Following the prayer service, benediction of the new WCC offices was lead by Very Rev. Fr Goossan Aljanian, head of the diocese of Switzerland of the Armenian Apostolic Church. “Through a special ceremony of home blessing we ask God to bless our homes on occasions of Nativity and Resurrection of Christ – as well as a joyous occasions of moving into a new home,” explained Rev. Aljanian, adding that the home blessing service in the tradition of the Armenian church is based on the Gospel account of Jesus Christ entering the Upper Room and blessing his disciples after the resurrection. “Home is where family members maintain and share same values, where we all collectively form oneness in spirit and assume our responsibilities in the life of community,” said Rev. Aljanian. “It is in this place where we break bread, share joys and sorrows.” While the historical building of the Ecumenical Centre is undergoing renovation, offices of World Council of Churches and some of its partners and tenants are now located in the nearby Kyoto building in the WCC’s Green Village development project.
