WCC news: WCC general secretary to visit member churches in Serbia

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay will visit WCC member churches in Serbia from 2-4 September.

First on his agenda is a visit to the St Michael’s Cathedral and the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church. He will then meet with His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije, and the bishops of the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church. 

After visiting St Sava Church, he will meet with the Serbian Orthodox Church members of the WCC governing and consultative bodies and with Serbian Orthodox theology students and faculty. 

A highlight of his visit will be attending the opening of the "World Council of Churches and the Serbian Orthodox Church (1948-1991): Exhibition of Archival Materials” at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Zemun), where he will deliver an opening address. 

He will also meet with other WCC member churches, including the Slovak Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Serbia and the Reformed Christian Church in Serbia.

Dr Andrej Jeftic, director of the WCC Commission on Faith and Order, will accompany the general secretary Pillay to Serbia.
