The Christian Recorder - President of the AME Council of Bishops Silvester Beaman Visits Angola with US President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

From Monday, December 2, 2024, to Wednesday, December 4, 2024, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. led a delegation on a state visit to the Republic of Angola. This trip marks the first visit by a sitting U.S. president to Angola and the first visit by a U.S. president to sub-Saharan Africa since 2015. Bishop Silvester Beaman, President of the Council of Bishops, accompanied the delegation. Bishop Beaman is Chair of the President’s Advisory Council on African Diaspora Engagement in the United States.

Reflecting on the visit, Bishop Beaman stated, "My ministry in the African Methodist Episcopal Church has been framed several seminal moments, amongst them being elected and consecrated as the 139th Bishop of the Church. I now must include traveling with President Joe Biden to the country of Angola on a diplomatic visit to His Excellency President João Lourenço connecting Angola and the U. S. The primary project is the Lobito Corridor, a multi-billion dollar infrastructure rail road initiative connecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Zambia, and Angola to global markets, increasing their ability to participate economic development."
