In addition to receiving a welcome to the WCC, Strobel and Krieg participated in the morning prayer, then met with WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay and staff.
The Brot für die Welt delegation also presented their work, in addition to receiving WCC strategic directions, financial update, and discussions on WCC peace-building initiatives.
Discussions also included the challenging financial climate and its impact on ecumenical and humanitarian organisations. Pillay acknowledged that, “most organisations doing a lot of good work for peace and justice in the world are going through or will experience funding challenges since organisations that have been instrumental in providing financial support are themselves going through difficult times.” He also recognized and thanked Brot fur die Welt for its unwavering and continuing commitment, collaboration, and support given to the WCC over many years.
Strobel said: “Together, we will ensure to find ways to carry the work forward despite decreasing resources. We cannot afford to lose the impressive impact of the WCC‘s work in peacebuilding, the fight against climate change, and justice for all.”
Krieg added: “Brot für die Welt is deeply committed to the work of the WCC and strongly believes in the importance of its work not only for the unity and faith but also for the global struggle for peace and justice.”
The delegation also received an introduction to the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey and met with the German mission to the UN.
