Advocate for Racial Equity in Housing

National Housing Day (November 22) highlights the crisis of homelessness and the lack of affordable housing in Canada. Despite housing being a human right, Canadian Centre for Housing Rights (CCHR) research shows that racialized and Indigenous people face systemic discrimination—receiving fewer landlord responses and being refused rentals more often than others. Discrimination prevails when housing is "left to the market," making government investment in affordable, non-market housing essential to ensure equitable access.

There are many concrete ways to engage in faithful actions to respond to racial inequities in housing, such as reading the CCHR report and contacting your Member of Parliament to advocate for housing justice. Find more resources, advocacy tools, and policy recommendations in the latest news story.

Through Mission and Service, The United Church of Canada accompanies global partners who bring compassion and courage to some of the world’s most difficult places. Today, we hold in prayer our partners in Gaza, where the situation remains catastrophic.

Partners in the ACT Palestine Forum are working tirelessly, distributing essential aid like food, clean water, and medical supplies while also offering psychosocial support amid overwhelming trauma.

Your gifts for Mission and Service make this vital work possible, helping provide hope and ensuring our partners know they are not alone as they continue to serve and advocate for peace rooted in justice.

Like the widow before the unjust judge (Luke 18:1-8), we are called to raise our voices again and again and again. We will not be silent until Canada uses every tool at its disposal to bring justice and peace.

  • Advocate: Urge Canada commit to a full arms embargo with Israel and open unhindered humanitarian access.
  • Pray: Hold the people of Palestine and Israel in persistent prayer for justice with peace.
  • Give: Support global partners delivering urgent aid.
