A Message of Thanksgiving from Rev. Dr. Gina C. Jacobs-Strain – General Secretary of American Baptist Churches USA
Dear Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
“You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.” — 2 Corinthians 9:11–12 As American Baptists, we are called to live as missional congregations that nurture devoted disciples of Jesus Christ—disciples whose lives of service and compassion bring healing to the world through the love of God. In this season of gratitude, we give thanks for the many ways our ministries reflect God’s generosity, justice, and grace, even in times of challenge and recovery.
This Thanksgiving, our hearts are especially with those impacted by Hurricane Melissa and other recent natural and man-made disasters. We also share deep concern for refugees, immigrants, and anyone who may live in fear and isolation. We are mindful of the increased stress on clergy and many local churches as they seek to share hope with the hopeless, comfort to those in need, and peace amid uncertainty, even as it has become increasingly difficult to care for our neighbors. We hold in prayer all who are rebuilding homes, restoring communities, and finding hope during hardship. We give thanks for the faithful hands and hearts of those who respond with care, comfort, and tangible support—embodying Christ’s love in action.
We are grateful for every act of kindness, every prayer lifted, and every hand extended in service. Through our shared mission and ministry, God continues to enrich us so that we might be a blessing to others, allowing thanksgiving and advocacy for the voiceless to overflow in our communities and throughout the world.
Let us continually reflect on the blessings in our lives and give thanks with grateful and humble hearts. Each day, as we take a moment for prayer and meditation, acknowledging the greatness and generosity of God, may we also share our gratitude and joy with others, spreading the light and love of a thankful spirit.
