Catawba Presbytery: History and Legacy
From just after the Civil War until the Presbyterian Church reunion, there was an important organization that served African American Presbyterians in the PC(USA): Catawba Presbytery. This presbytery was formed by three white pastors who did not like the way that formerly enslaved persons were overlooked and unserved by the Southern Presbyterian church. Their work formed a presbytery, and much more, including educational institutions. Its history is deeply important to the Presbyterian Church – and one that you need to know.
