In-person spiritual formation program returns | | NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The first in-person Academy for Spiritual Formation classes since COVID-19 will take place starting Jan. 23 at Camp McDowell Retreat and Conference Center in Nauvoo, Alabama. The Upper Room curriculum creates transformative space for people to connect with God, self, others and creation. It is a two-year program, meeting in the same location for five days, every three months, totaling 40 days in residence over the course of two years. The cost to attend is $7,980. | | | | |

WCC Assembly closes with call to 'act for justice'
| KARLSRUHE, Germany (UM News) — At the end of the 11th General Assembly of the World Council of Churches, delegates called for the "healing of our living planet." The message, titled "A Call to Act Together," read: "We will find a strength to act from a unity founded in Christ’s love." The group also adopted statements on peace, including one denouncing the "illegal and unjustifiable" Russian invasion of Ukraine and another on the Israeli and Palestinian conflict. Helping after Hurricane Fiona
| ATLANTA — Hurricane Fiona, the first major hurricane of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, caused catastrophic damage in Puerto Rico and brought torrential rains to the Dominican Republic. It has left millions without power and running water. The United Methodist Committee on Relief is in close contact with the disaster response coordinator of the Methodist Church of Puerto Rico and has awarded an initial solidarity grant to help address immediate needs. | | |
