The Department of Research and Scholarship is pleased to announce receiving a $50,000 planning grant to study AMEC preaching. With this support from the Compelling Preaching Initiative of Lilly Endowment Inc., the Department of Research and Scholarship will develop and maintain a resource center, providing preaching seminars, supporting Boards of Examiners, and one-on-one assistance for compelling preaching across the Connection.
The project will identify actionable steps to strengthen the delivery of the gospel by engaging scholars, activists, practitioners, and laity of various ages to address relevant topics and enhance writing, publication, collaborative research, and scholarship to advance the gospel. Lilly Endowment Inc. is a private philanthropic foundation based in Indianapolis.
The Endowment was created in 1937 by J.K. Lilly, Sr., and his sons – Eli and J.K. Jr. – through gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical business, Eli Lilly and Company. Although the gifts of stock remain a financial bedrock of the Endowment, it is a separate entity from the company, with a distinct governing board, staff, and location. In keeping with its founders’ wishes, the Endowment supports the causes of community development, education, and religion.
In support of our project, we invite AMEs to get involved. The Department of Research and Scholarship is surveying clergy and lay, across the Connection, to obtain input in key areas of AME preaching they feel are necessary to expand the gospel.
Please complete our 5-minute, anonymous survey through https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZGQMLM6 no later than August 8, 2022, at 5:00 pm EST.
