Religion News Service Audio - Krista Tippett sits down with Saved By The City

The Companionable Questions
of Krista Tippett

Sunday, March 31

The Meryl Streep of Interviewing

The godmother of faith podcasters, Krista Tippett, joined us in the studio for Saved By The City this week. Krista’s voice has been a companion and a guide as she plumbed the mysteries of the spirit with her public radio program "On Being" becoming as much of a Sunday morning necessity as coffee and a bagel. As SBTC host Roxanne Stone noted, “I feel like I’ve spent so many hours of my life listening to her voice. So just actually hearing it in person, talking to me, that made me teary.”

Of all the interviewers that our hosts want to be like, Krista is at the very top. Alarmingly genuine, present, thoughtful and generous as she is as an interviewer, as a guest she is just a parade of delightful thinking, making even our global disarray seem, if not solvable, then survivable. So Katelyn and Roxy, as fellow question askers, wanted to know how to ask better questions?

Satisfyingly, “I use questions as companions,” Krista replied. Listen this week to see what she meant.

Over on The State of Belief, our friend Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush was busy with the author, pastor, and activist John Pavlovitz. John’s new book, "Worth Fighting For: Finding Courage & Compassion When Cruelty is Trending," explores how deliberate confrontation and the widespread embrace of untruths has provoked nothing less than a mental health crisis.

Word to the wise: The State of Belief pairs well with the lamb and a nice Beaujolais.

Krista Tippett asks us some of the more salient questions of our time: What is the role of faith in a technological era? Does religion only divide?
Paul Brandeis Raushenbush's guest is best-selling author, pastor and activist John Pavlovitz. John’s brand-new book is titled, Worth Fighting For: Finding Courage & Compassion When Cruelty is Trending.
