Montreat Needs You in Our Boat!

Montreat Conference Center

Montreat's fiscal year ends this Sunday, April 30th!

Have you ever tried to take a four-year-old paddle boating? Even in the best of circumstances, it’s a difficult task. Last summer, on a hot July afternoon, I went out on Lake Susan with my son after I picked him up from the Clubs program. He told me all about his day, excitedly sharing news of friends from near and far, and about the games and activities they had played that day. After a few minutes, though, he asked, "Dad, why aren’t we moving?" In the excitement of sharing his day, he had forgotten to help pedal. Then, once we were moving, he asked, "Dad, why are we going in a circle?" He had also forgotten that he was holding the rudder, causing us to slowly spiral in the middle of the lake. Recognizing all the pieces that come together for a successful paddle boat ride, we began to move in the right direction.

Why am I sharing this story? Because Montreat often works like the paddle boat. Everyone – conferees, cottagers, volunteers, staff, and donors – has a role to play in charting the course of the mission and ministry here. We rely on Montreat Fund donors to lend their strength and move the boat forward as we end our fiscal year this Sunday, April 30. If you attended a conference 10 years ago, if your child will attend Clubs or Youth Conference this summer, or perhaps if you have only been here once to hike or camp, we hope you understand that Montreat is more than a place of hospitality, a collection of trails, a retreat for Sabbath. Montreat is a place where God's love is powerfully felt, transforming the lives of all who venture here.

There are those among us who are excellent paddle boaters and have already made an annual gift. To you, I extend my deepest gratitude and sincere appreciation. For those who may need more encouragement away from the deck and into the boat, I’m happy to offer my assistance. Gifts can be made online using the button below through midnight on Sunday, or checks can be dated by the 30th to count for this fiscal year. You can reach me at any time via email or by phone using the address or number below.

Hold the rudder straight. Push the pedals. Make your gift today.

Thank you for your generosity and your consideration of a gift to Montreat this year. As the mountains surround Montreat, may the love of God surround you all.
