UC National News - Ash Wednesday edition (2-8 March): Flooding Emergency Appeal, Going Deeper Week 1, Friends of Ageing and more

East Coast Flooding Emergency Appeal

Uniting Church in Australia President Rev Sharon Hollis has launched a national appeal to support people and communities impacted by the intense rainfall and devastating flooding across the East Coast.

Thousands of people have been rescued from their homes or rooftops and whole communities evacuated as record-breaking torrential rainfall has caused major flooding in towns and cities across South East Queensland and into northern New South Wales and continues to move south.

“Our prayers are with all those communities affected by this disaster, and we pray for the safety of people who are trapped or impacted by the rising floodwaters,” said President Rev Sharon Hollis.

At present 19 chaplains have been deployed to 11 evacuation centres by the Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network (DRCN) of NSW and ACT and chaplains will continue to come alongside disaster-affected people in coming weeks. Photo: Uniting Church Dayboro.
