Head of Russia Evangelical Alliance Sends Open Letter Lamenting Military Invasion, Praying for Forgiveness

"All these events cause me deep sorrow, bitterness and regret for decisions taken by the leadership of my country, and a great compassion for those suffering as a result of this decision.Everything I could do to prevent war, I did in an attempt to stop this military invasion," Rev. WEA Secretary General Congratulates UN Environment Programme to 50th Anniversary, Calls UN Body “Pioneer in Engaging Faith Groups”

WEA Secretary General Bishop Dr Thomas Schirrmacher congratulated the UNEP to its 50th anniversary at a special celebratory event following the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya last week. Invited to speak on behalf of all faith groups, Schirrmacher called UNEP a pioneer among UN organizations and entities in recognizing the importance of people of faith in responding to global issues.

Churches Called to Play Unique Role in Responding to Growing Crisis of More than 7 Million Children Orphaned Due to COVID-19

“We estimate that for every person reported to have died as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, one child is left orphaned or loses a caregiver. That is the equivalent of one child every six seconds facing a heightened risk of lifelong adversity unless given appropriate support in time,” commented Dr. Susan Hillis, who served as lead author of the study as part of her role with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is also a member of WWO’s leadership team.

WEA Welcomes UN Environment Assembly Resolution to End Plastic Pollution

WEA welcomes the resolution agreed upon at the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) to end plastic pollution and forge an international legally binding agreement by 2024. The WEA together with other faith actors has advocated for a robust response to the issue of the exponentially increasing pollution currently estimated at 400 million tons of plastic per year.
