UC National News 9-15 March - Celebrating UCA women, meet our Being a Multicultural Church Advocate, Grief in COVID webinar and more

Celebrating our Uniting Church women

This week we are celebrating the immense contribution of women in the Uniting Church following International Women's Day on Tuesday.

We invited people across the church to name the inspiring women in their communities making an impact through their witness, leadership and service. We are delighted to share those names with you and a little about the ways they have inspired others.

The participation and leadership of women is part of the DNA of the Uniting Church. In our story, we asked some of the women what this has meant in their life and for their ministry.

Suguta Rogoimuri responded, “I believe it has allowed me to see that women have a particular way of networking and responding to issues and that the church is enriched by this. It has allowed me to own my identity and vocation as one who seeks to follow Christ.”

Meet these amazing women

Give to the East Coast flooding emergency appeal

We continue to pray for those impacted by flooding across NSW and QLD with severe weather this week leading to further devastation and the declaration of a national emergency. President Rev Sharon Hollis last week launched a national appeal to support communities affected. You can show your support by making a donation to the Assembly’s National Disaster Relief Fund.

Plan to End Violence needs a practical path to success

In a submission to the Federal Government's Draft National Plan to End Violence Against Women and Children, UnitingCare Australia has welcomed the significance and ambition of the plan but called for more detail on how its goals will be achieved and its progress tracked. The submission is informed by input from UnitingCare Australia’s wide network of organisations that deliver services and support to those impacted by domestic and family violence.

Here for the long haul after disaster

Frontier Services is appealing to supporters this month to donate to the work of their Bush Chaplains so they can be on the ground supporting communities impacted by recent disasters. Bush Chaplains are trained to deliver pastoral care in times of emergency but are also there for the long term as people recover.

UnitingWorld releases new song of hope and solidarity

A new worship song has been written for UnitingWorld's Seven Days of Solidarity. Titled 'One in Christ,' the song was written by Roxanne McLeod and performed with Rev Ellie and Andrew Elia, Kelly and Julian Elia, Rev Radhika and Rev Adrian Sukumar-White, Melissa Coleman and Matt Potts. It is a powerful expression of hope and unity at a time we've never needed it more.
