UC National News 17-23 Nov - Getting up to speed with Act2, Small steps not enough @COP26, Praying for Myanmar and more

Act2: Where are we?

The biggest conversation taking place in the Uniting Church right now is the Act2 project. Act2 is a whole-of-Church process and approach to discerning where God is calling us and how we move boldly and with faith into the future.

If you haven't yet heard about or engaged with Act2, this summary will bring you up to speed. This week we break down where we've been, where we are, and how to get involved right now.

Small steps not enough at COP26

The Uniting Church in Australia has joined with the World Council of Churches in expressing disappointment with the lack of ambition and inadequate outcomes at the COP26 meeting. UCA President Rev Sharon Hollis said we are at a crucial moment in time and need to do more to protect the most vulnerable.

Praying for Myanmar

Uniting Church members are invited to join with other Christians in a Day of Prayer for Myanmar on Sunday 28 November. Organisers have urged people to join in prayer with Myanmar “in its yearning to be free” after decades of trauma. Burmese Uniting Church minister Rev Gospel Ralte has written a number of prayer points for Uniting Church members in Mizo with an English translation.

Calling all creatives! Name the President's Podcast

UCA President Rev Sharon Hollis is about to launch a new podcast, and we want YOU to name it! Exploring a number of themes over the triennium, the Podcast will introduce you to people the President meets in her travels and reflect on our life as the Uniting Church in Australia. We want your cleverest names, alliterations and puns, and we'll pick our favourite for the Podcast title. Drop your ideas over on our Facebook page or email us.

Growing Advent faith at home

Join the team at the UCA Children and Families Ministry Facebook page next Tuesday 23 November as they go live to explore the Christmas Family Faith Trail. An interactive, intergenerational resource from the Intergen Team - Synod of South Australia, Family Faith Trail leads households and small groups into the events of the Christmas story across the four weeks of Advent.

Hearing your voice on ageing

UnitingCare Australia is inviting your voice on ageing and aged care, with the first national conversation to be held by Uniting Friends of Ageing.
“The voices of Uniting Church older members are important to us,” said National Director Claerwen Little. “We want to - literally - hear your voices! Working as a community has always been our strength and it’s vital that we hear from you.”
Join the conversation on Thursday 2 December at 4pm AEDT via Zoom.
