E-ssentials: 40 Days Live with Michiko Bown-Kai, A John the Baptist Christmas, and more

40 Days Live: Michiko Bown-Kai

Join us today at 12:00 p.m. EST for the next 40 Days of Engagement on Anti-Racism Live event. Michiko Bown-Kai’s grandparents were interned in a Japanese internment camp in B.C. during World War II. Learning about their experiences helped Bown-Kai understand identity and the impacts of racism. “Acts of racist violence are not just singular moments; they change who we are and remain with us with a haunting presence.” Join Michiko Bown-Kai in a discussion about a story that dominant Canadian culture would rather forget or erase.

Register to join us on Zoom, or watch the livestream on our Facebook page. The session will also be recorded and made available on YouTube afterwards.

Webinar: A John the Baptist Christmas

The traumatic impact or the aftermath of pandemic experiences means that this might be a "John the Baptist" Christmas for more people than usual. What does that mean? How can we manage? What gifts accompany this reality? Join trauma expert Diane Strickland for a special webinar later this month as we make room for him and discover who comes along, too. Find out more, and sign up.

When: November 23, 2021. 12:00 noon EST / 9:00 a.m. PST

Then Let Us Sing! Submission Deadline

Then Let Us Sing! is a new online musical portal launching in fall 2024. It will contain most of the pieces you’ve come to love from Voices United, More Voices, and Nos voix unies, plus a growing collection of new music.

The submissions now being received for Then Let Us Sing! will be considered for The United Church of Canada’s most current—and future-focused—content source for congregational singing, worship, and liturgy planning as we prepare for and celebrate our second century. The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2022. Find out more!

Your Generosity Matters: A Second Chance

Chance was born with fetal alcohol syndrome. Mental health problems left him feeling hopeless until he discovered the Bissell Centre. There, your generosity through Mission & Service gives hope a chance.
