WCC NEWS: WCC acting general secretary reflects on faith and diplomacy at Religions for Peace conference

World Council of Churches (WCC) acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca offered a greeting to the Conference of the World Council of Religious Leaders on Faith and Diplomacy: Generations in Dialogue, scheduled for 4-7 October in Lindau, Germany.

Sauca reflected that religious groups have come a long way in their ability to contribute to peace between peoples and nations. “With indeed growing expectations and recognition comes also greater responsibility,” he said. “People longing for peace and justice for their suffering children and families watch carefully if we take them seriously and speak out for them.”

Sauca asked: Do we walk the talk? “Have our own relationships with each other as religious leaders grown enough and matured so much that we are holding each other accountable on our common journey?” he asked, adding, “I believe we do.”

Sauca said he sees religious leaders strengthening the bonds among members of one human family. He assured those gathered that their solidarity has profound meaning.

“As a co-president of Religions for Peace, I am proud of our work together, of our achievements, dreams, projects and aspirations,” he said. “Walking together and witnessing to our common values, we will go far and not get weary.”

WCC central committee moderator Dr Agnes Abuom also shared a message with the conference.
