ENGAGE with Love & Justice Gathering

The words "love and justice gathering" written in red and orange, next to a red and orange heart.

From November 3-7, 2021, the Church in Mission Unit of the General Council Office invites you to celebrate and learn with them about the many love and justice ministries of our church. Join us to worship, build community, and learn together:

  • Day 2: Engage daring justice - Panel discussion on "Ministry Outside the Lines: A conversation about daring justices in personal lives, communities, and beyond." Keynote speakers are the Rev. Alexa Gilmour, preacher, podcast host and activist; the Very Rev. The Hon. Lois Wilson CC, former Moderator of The United Church of Canada and former senator; and Mr. Chris Mah Poy, First Third Ministry, Justice and Ministry Networks Coordinator of Chinook Winds Regional Council.
  • Day 3: Engage courageous community - Keynote Speaker the Rev. Carolina Costa is the author of video-books on faith, gamebooks on pastoral care and progressive theology, and pastor of the Protestant Church of Geneva on a pilot project for young adults called “Le LAB.”
  • Day 4: Engage bold discipleship - Keynote Speaker the Rev. Dr. Deenabandhu Manchala is a pastor and theologian from India, and Area Executive for Southern Asia in Global Ministries of The United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • Day 5: Engage hope - Keynote Speaker Cláudio Carvalhaes, from Brazil, is on the faculty of Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He is a theologian, liturgist, and artist.

United Church Bookstore: Reflections on Emancipation and Anti-Black Racism for Canada by Paul Douglas Walfall

Seeking to raise awareness about the history of African enslavement and the legacies of slavery in Canada, this book collects reflections from theologians, historians, and pastors on the relevance of the celebration of the abolition of slavery for Canada. This book is a great way to engage and reflect on the history of chattel slavery in this country. Find this, and all the books that will be featured in the ENGAGE with Love & Justice Gathering, on the United Church Bookstore website.

Your Generosity Matters: Growing Stronger Together - Maina's Story

Photo of Maina wearing a sequined pink head scarf.

Maina’s mother died when she was a baby. Sadly, she didn’t have the opportunity to go to school. Now, she can read and write and is teaching others to, as well. Here’s her amazing story.
