E-ssentials: Guaranteed Livable Income Vigils, Strategic Planning Town Halls, and more.

Light a Flame for a Guaranteed Livable Income

In this video, Moderator Richard Bott invites you to join the call for a Guaranteed Livable Income and contact our Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. This Thursday, April 8 is a chance to make this call visible; plan to light a candle, take a picture, and post publicly on social media (#UCCanlivableincome, #BasicIncome, #UCCan) in solidarity with more than 40 vigils being held online and in person across the country. Due to COVID-19, the vigils are restricted to locally designated individuals, and plans will be adjusted if needed. You can read more on the GLI webpage.

Strategic Planning Process 2021: Town Hall Meetings

The 43rd General Council will receive a major report recommending mission, vision, and key strategic priorities for The United Church of Canada at its October 2021 meeting. Following the major gathering of the commissioners in July 2018 in Oshawa, they agreed to meet annually until the 44th General Council to consider urgent matters of denominational importance. This strategic planning process aimed at providing a common direction for 2022‒2024 is one of those key urgent matters.

Consultations are happening across the church through focus groups, interviews, and surveys. Five Moderator’s Town Hall events are also planned and open to all members, with an emphasis on those in paid and volunteer leadership. All are welcome at these Town Halls.

Out of the blue, Harry Stewart and Chris Southin learned that they had won an award from the Governor General recognizing “great Canadians for exceptional deeds that bring honour to our country.” They received the honour for co-founding Rainbow Camp®, based in northern Ontario. Since 2012, the camp has welcomed young people of all sexual identities and gender expressions. Your support through Mission & Service has been there from the beginning. Here’s the story about how your gifts support award-winning, safe, welcoming spaces like Rainbow Camp®.
