Today on what would have been her 150th birthday, South African pioneer Charlotte Maxeke was honored by the African National Congress. Mother Maxeke was the first Black woman to receive a college degree and attended Wilberforce University in Ohio. She was one of the pioneers of both the AME Church and the African National Congress. One of South Africa's major hospitals is named in her honor.
