New Racial Justice Resources!

“The truth of the Gospel is always offensive and unpopular because it expresses solidarity with the powerless and those on the margins.” - James Cone
We at More Light are committed to the work of dismantling white supremacy, and to partnering with those who are actively working to create a world where all of God’s children are truly safe to live into the people they’ve been created to be. As we continue striving for this world, we are grateful for the wisdom and energy of so many people we have the privilege to journey beside, and for the bounty of resources they create.
We are excited to share a number of new offerings directly addressing ways we can learn and take action to participate in the work of ending white supremacy.
Racial Justice Teach-Ins
We are delighted to share that Part 3 of our Racial Justice Teach-In and the accompanying Discussion Guide are now available for download! This is a great resource for anyone looking to engage in conversations about ways to address and dismantle systems of white supremacy. By centering the voices and wisdom of LGBTQIA+ BIPOC faith leaders, More Light’s Racial Justice Teach-Ins offer an additional lens to the work of racial justice. You can also download the complete series in our shop. You also get a price break when you purchase all 3 parts of the Racial Justice Teach-In as a series!
New Documentary Series from the PC(USA)
“Trouble the Water: Conversations to Disrupt Racism and Dominance” is a documentary series resource produced by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) for communities and congregations to facilitate conversation and engagement around the issues of race and racism. As we struggle as a nation with these deep systemic and structural issues on a daily basis, we hope this series can be a resource to listen to one another, have difficult but honest conversations and collectively work together to disrupt systemic racism. More Light’s Executive Director Alex Patchin McNeill is a featured contributor on Episode 4: Intersectionality
Presbyterian Week of Action
Save the date! August 24th -30th for the Presbyterian Week of Action! We are excited to support the work of the office of Racial Equity & Women’s Intercultural Ministries in the inaugural Presbyterian Week of Action. From the office: “It is abundantly clear through the gospel narrative and the greater witness of the Bible, that God has called us, as people of faith, to seek justice for those most marginalized in our world. As a Matthew 25 denomination, it is the vision of our church to eradicate white supremacy and dismantle institutionalized racism. Furthermore, in an effort to do the “hands & feet” work the Lord ordains, we must act and bear witness to the gospel in these crucial times. It is because of this that efforts are being made to move our Presbyterian response beyond statements and into action. As a centerpiece of this movement toward our denominational response, the PC(USA) will host a Presbyterian Justice Week of Action. This endeavor is structured to provide a public witness that facilitates education, visibility, and action that reinforces our PC(USA) statements and policy around the support of eradicating racism and acknowledging that God loves all Black lives. By joining together as national staff and the greater church, we hope to provide faithful leadership in the area of justice, love, and equality within our denomination and communities.”
The Week of Action week will include ways to connect, learn, and act in a Global Day of Solidarity, a Town Hall Conversation, and Public Actions. More Light’s Program & Communications Manager Jess Cook will be participating in various events throughout the week. Stay tuned for more details!
NEXT Church Coaching Cohort
More Light is delighted to share that we will again be partnering with NEXT Church’s coaching cohorts! There are four small groups, each focusing on a specific focus: Empowerment Practices for Clergywomen, Antiracism Practices for Faithful Leadership, Enneagram and Leadership, and Design Thinking for Church Leaders. Alex will be leading the group focused on Antiracism Practices for Faithful Leadership. Cohorts begin in September and space is limited so don't miss your change to register! You can learn more on NEXT Church’s cohort coaching webpage.
As we continue to move through this unprecedented time, may we all remember that we are in this journey together, and the work of bringing more light to the world can only happen if we are in it together, and only with grace and trust will we be able to engage in the difficult work of uncovering systems of power, domination, and oppression at work within us all, so we may work together for our collective liberation.
In peace and hope,
The Team at More Light
