WCC news: WCC extends congratulations Rt. Rev. Rt. Hon. Dame Sarah Mullally, newly appointed Archbishop of Canterbury

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay extended warm congratulations to Rt. Rev. Rt. Hon. Dame Sarah Mullally, the first woman to be appointed Archbishop of Canterbury.

“It is with joy and hope that we witness this moment in the life of the Church of England, as we give thanks and celebrate your nomination to this position of sacred responsibility,” wrote Pillay. “You take up this great responsibility at a challenging time.”

Pillay added: “May God grant you wisdom, courage, humility, and patience for the times ahead.”

Mullally will be installed at Canterbury Cathedral in March 2026.
