| Dear members of the Uniting Church in Australia and friends in Christ, Last Tuesday, Uniting Church President Rev Charissa Suli released a Pastoral Statement on the tragic passing of beloved Deacon and Moderator-elect of the Uniting Church Northern Synod Rev Dr Michelle Cook. We share in the deep shock and grief of so many across the Uniting Church, while at the same time we give praise and thanks to God for Michelle’s deep faith, good humour, missional insight, wise counsel, gift for practical theology and full embrace of her diaconal ministry. A person of great integrity and beloved child of God, her loss will be felt far and wide and she will be deeply missed. The Uniting Church Northern Synod has announced that Michelle’s Funeral and Service of Thanksgiving will be held on Thursday 14th November at 10:30am ACST at Nightcliff Uniting Church in Darwin. (9am AWST, 11am AEST, 11:30am ACDT, 12pm AEDT). It will be live-streamed via this link. Several public viewings of the funeral live-stream have been planned around the country for people to gather as they mourn and celebrate. Details are on the webpage. The President has also requested an online condolence board be established in Michelle’s honour. These messages will later be shared with Michelle's family. |
