TCR Breaking News: Bishop Green Provides Invocation for House Chamber Following AME Day of Action at South Carolina Statehouse
COLUMBIA, SC (JANUARY 26, 2023) — Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr. provided the invocation for the House chamber’s session following the Seventh Episcopal District of the AME Church’s AME Day of Action at the South Carolina statehouse on Wednesday, Jan. 25
During a press conference following the invocation, Bishop Green said, “It was an honor to pray before our elected officials as they convened to legislate on behalf of the millions of South Carolinians who entrust them to serve our state. Throughout today’s AME Day of Action, we have put our faith to work by better understanding our legislators’ priorities for this two-year session as well as reminding them and our Governor what we hear from members in our communities across the state. It is imperative that we continue to voice our desires and concerns so that the leaders who write our laws can both be held accountable and truly bring about change.”
Throughout the day, members and attendees met with Gov. Henry McMaster and members of the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus. They also had the opportunity to sign onto a petition to urge state lawmakers to draft legislation in support of the tenets of the Jubilee Justice Agenda, a Black policy agenda committed to improving the quality of life and life outcomes of Black South Carolinians.
