2022 Christmas Meditation

This last year has made us realize how violent our world is. Of course, the situation in Ukraine has opened our eyes to the realities of war and the devastation it brings. And while news of Ukraine is often reported, we are also aware of the continuing situations in Yemen, Palestine, Myanmar, and many other parts of the world, which often go unreported. On the other hand, we also know of the contexts of covert, quotidian, almost banal violence that takes place through poverty, patriarchy, and racism.

In this context, we approach Christmas this year in the context of violence; however, if we look at the Christmas story closely, we find that this story challenges the violence in society. If we look at the Christmas story, we see that the story speaks out powerfully against violence.

Three opportunities


The WCRC is currently offering three opportunities for leadership development:


The Global Institute of Theology will be held 15 to 30 June in Suva, Fiji, under the theme "Unsettling the Word in an Unsettled World." Application deadline: 31 January.

The WCRC internship programme gives highly qualified young people an opportunity to gain valuable experience working with the WCRC for a year. Application deadline: 10 February.

The Ecumenical School on Governance, Economics and Management (GEM School) for an Economy of Life, will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 21 August through 1 September. Application deadline: 24 February.
