June 21 is National Indigenous Day. We have a number of worship resources for you to use. The Rev. Mitchell Anderson has also written a powerful blog post on the intersection of Indigenous rights and Black Lives Matter.

Kamloops Residential School

A photo of white stones on lying on brown earth forming the number 215.

The discovery of the remains of 215 children on the grounds of the former Kamloops Residential School in May was an event which reverberated across the country. We think especially of those who attended residential schools, or had family who did. The United Church has issued both a pastoral response, and an update on its response to the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, including those related to burial sites and missing children. More recently, news has emerged of a similar discovery related to Brandon Residential School, which was operated by the United Church. We are committed to supporting families and communities in honouring these children.

Pride Week HIV/AIDS Vigil

On June 27 at 7:00 p.m. ET, please join Indigenous Ministries and Justice’s Executive Minister, Murray Pruden, for an evening of remembering, honouring, and celebrating those lost to and those who live with HIV/AIDS. The event will be livestreamed on Indigenous Ministries’ Facebook page: @IndigenousMinistries.
