| | Did you know that high cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke? September is National Cholesterol Education Month, an important reminder to get your cholesterol checked. If you have medical coverage through the Board of Pensions, an annual cholesterol screening — a simple blood test called a lipoprotein profile — is covered as part of your preventive care benefits. High cholesterol usually doesn’t have symptoms, so it’s important to get your cholesterol levels checked. |

| Part of achieving wholeness is broadening our horizons. One way we can do this is by exploring the gifts other cultures bring to our common experience. As we observe Hispanic Heritage Month, we have an opportunity to express gratitude for the contributions of Latinx people to our nation’s history, to the diverse and rich traditions that are woven into our culture, and to the leadership of the Church.
Even as we celebrate one culture, we should also expand our understanding of the multiplicity of peoples and cultures that make up our congregations, communities, and country. Explore our nation’s history through a different cultural lens, seek to understand the spiritual and theological perspectives that shape other cultures, and read books and discover the contributions to the creative arts by persons from diverse heritages. Remember that to know others, in humility and with open hearts, is to discover something about ourselves that may be either embraced or transformed. |
