E-ssentials: Moderator Carmen Lansdowne Praises Bishop Budde, and more!

The Moderator Thanks Bishop Budde for her “Bold and Prophetic” Words

Moderator Carmen Lansdowne wrote a powerful letter of support and gratitude to Bishop Mariann Budde following her address to President Trump on January 21st.

In her letter to Bishop Budde Moderator Carmen says:

What you preached, and then speaking directly to the president, was bold and prophetic. And it was deeply rooted in our faith tradition. You stood on the shoulders of generations of political theologians who preached, in love, that the compulsion to dominate must not be allowed to reign.

Mission and Service Stories: A Classroom of Care

As the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine nears three years, millions of people have been displaced, including English teacher Ilona. Now, with support from The United Church of Canada's Mission and Service partner, ACT Alliance, Ilona is teaching English to displaced Ukrainians in Sambir. These classes provide crucial psychosocial support, offering a safe space for students to learn, connect, and heal. As Ilona emphasizes, “When we come together and get to know each other, we have a community.” Your support through Mission and Service enables programs like this, offering hope and resilience to those impacted by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
