Today Is Giving Tuesday!

After the Headlines fade the emergency remains. Giving Tuesday.

If you haven’t had a chance to make your donation yet but are seriously considering it, please do it now.

Your gifts will be put to work providing aid as soon as it is needed in the areas where it is needed most. And the best part is that your support will be there to help rebuild through our partners long after their stories are no longer circulated in the news.

Thank you for your support, and I hope you will join in responding to our neighbours' needs this Giving Tuesday.

Tonight's Final 40 Days Live Event

Copyright Justice and Musical Misapporpriation with members of the "Then Let Us Sing!" Working Group

Tonight, please join the members of the “Then Let Us Sing!” Working Group for the final 40 Days live event. It will be a bilingual one, with English‒French interpretation!

Members of the team will explore how we continue to sing justly. The ways in which we learn, teach, share, and reproduce (copyright) songs help us express our commitment to justice. This gathering time will discuss Then Let Us Sing’s principles when it comes to justice in song, including its copyright policy and anti-racist/anti-oppression framework. We will ask questions about respecting and honouring other traditions and practise ways to learn and teach these songs. And, of course, we will sing together!

Register on CHURCHx for this gathering time.

COP28 Virtual Delegation with Rev. Chali Mfuta, and Sarah Gingles, and Shane Goldie

From November 30 to December 12, 2023, a delegation of young adults from The United Church of Canada will attend the COP28 conference virtually. Join us as we pray for these young adults and their COP28 journey. Follow along for COP28 updates on social media using #UCCANCOP28 and #FLCCOP28.

The theme of COP28 is Unite. Act. Deliver. You can take action right now by sending an email to urge Minister Guilbeault to ensure a Loss and Damage Fund with new funding centered on equity and climate justice is established.

Mission and Service Stories: Education in the Wake of Disaster

Children playing in school yard surrounded by cement walls, with apartment buildings behind.

The start of the first school year in Aleppo, Syria, after the devastating February earthquake was a welcome return to normal for some students, thanks to Mission and Service partner The Middle East Council of Churches. MECC was able to rehabilitate five school buildings in Aleppo before September 2023, so children will have the opportunity to learn and grow safely.

EDGEy Conversations

Edgey Conversations with Marcie Gibson and Scott Douglas

Scott Douglas, Program Director of the Centre for Christian Studies in Winnipeg, MB, and Marcie Gibson, Program Staff (with particular responsibility for the students in their final year), recently chatted with Sarah Levis about innovation’s role in the church and its influence, particularly on how CCS educates its diaconal ministry students. This thought-provoking discussion, touching on many different ideas about innovation in church contexts, is available on EDGE’s YouTube channel. Thank you, Scott and Marcie!
