WCC general secretary visits India for Christian Conference of Asia assembly

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay will travel to India from 26 September to 3 October in conjunction with the 15th General Assembly of the Christian Conference of Asia, and for visits with WCC member churches.

He will open the Christian Conference of Asia assembly with a special Lighting the Lamp” ceremony as he offers an inaugural message. Pillay will also give a thematic address as part of a plenary session, and will attend other assembly sessions, including one on Dwelling in Harmony with Creation.”

Pillay will meet with participants of the WCC-Christian Conference of Asia South Asia Consultation on Ecumenical Diakonia. He will also meet with 100 participants of the Asian Ecumenical Youth Assembly at Vijayapuram Diocese Conference Centre.

Pillay will attend the Asian Ecumenical Festival at the Mammen Mappila Hall, a celebratory ecumenical event with cultural presentations and public meetings.

In addition to giving a sermon at CSI Cathedral in Kottayam, Pillay will also meet with a delegation from South Korea.

Pillay will visit churches including the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church in India and Kuravilangadu Church (Roman Catholic), a historical place in Indian church history, and Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church at Devalokam.

Seminary visits will also be on Pillay’s agenda, including the Mar Thoma Theological Seminary in Kottayam, Malankara Syrian Orthodox Theological Seminary, Asian Ecumenical Institute at the Thomas Mar Athanasius Memorial Research and Orientation Centre, and Orthodox Theological Seminary.
