E-ssentials: Together for the Love of Creation Earth Week, Ask and Imagine Youth Webinars, and more!

Together for the Love of Creation: Earth Week 2023!

During Earth Week 2023, The United Church of Canada is joining with numerous denominations and faith-based organizations under one banner, Together for the Love of Creation.

Communities of faith, networks, and regions are invited to initiate and participate in climate justice events during the week of April 16‒23 to pray, learn, and act for the love of creation.

Find out more, and how can you take action towards climate change.

Ask and Imagine: Youth! Webinars

Youth raising their hands

In 2019‒2020, the United Church asked young people what helps them find a sense of identity in this church, and what barriers keep them from leading and engaging. And then, the world changed!

Now, more than ever, we need to listen more deeply to the stories of young people and question more sharply the barriers to their participation and leadership.

We invite those who lead and love young people to a Zoom conversation—a first step—to hear what young people have told us and to invite your thoughts, questions, and opinions. The conversations will be led by Pamela Evans, Pacific Mountain Regional Council, and Amy Crawford, General Council.

Please join us at one of these four opportunities—no registration is required:

United Church Hosts “Rated-R” Gathering with Asian Partners

Participants gathered at Union Theological Seminary, Philippines

“Rated R”—the cheeky title of a church consultation—brought 38 people together in Manila in February 2023 to share stories and plan new steps to overcome religious-based homophobia and transphobia across Asia. Read the full news story.

Your Generosity Matters: Your Generosity Increases Food Security

Merit Mabenga

In Zambia, Merit Mabenga has felt the deep impacts of climate change. Droughts are killing her crops, necessities are scarce, and prices are soaring far beyond her modest reach. But your support through Mission & Service is helping Merit and her family not just to survive, but also to thrive.

Published four times a year, Faith@Home is a magazine aimed to support ministers and leaders in their ministry with the children, youth, and families in the community of faith they serve—and it's proven to be a wonderful way to support grandparents and godparents in faithfully connecting with the young people in their lives!

All of the Faith@Home resources are designed to foster faith language and Christian practices in a home setting, and the content is created by experienced United Church of Canada Children and Family Ministers, including contributions from Moderator Carmen Lansdowne.

Remit Process Underway: Deadline One Year Away

Moderator and Indigenous Hands

The current remit question asks about the creation of an autonomous National Indigenous Organization within The United Church of Canada. Some people have been asking questions about this remit process. One, the deadline date is March 31, 2024. That deadline is next year (not in a few days), and it gives more than one full year to vote. Two, the vote is for the governing board of a community of faith (such as a church council). It does not need to be a vote for the full congregation. The process for Remits is outlined in The Manual of The United Church of Canada in section F.2. We invite you to learn more and explore the remit process.
