The meeting will be held in-person in Geneva, and the search committee will present its report to the central committee.

The WCC executive committee will gather on 14 June, the day before the central committee, and directly after the meeting the assembly leadership will meet 20-21 June to prepare for the assembly in Karlsruhe 31 August to 8 September 2022.

The WCC central committee is elected by the assembly from among its delegates and serves as the chief governing body of the WCC, responsible for carrying out the policies adopted by the assembly, supervising WCC programmes and adopting the budget of the council.

Since the WCC 10th Assembly in Busan in 2013, the WCC central committee has met in 2014 in Geneva, 2016 in Trondheim, and 2018 in Geneva, when the governing body celebrated the WCC’s 70th anniversary and the ecumenical pilgrimage of Pope Francis. In 2020, the WCC central committee meeting was postponed, and held in 2021 in June on video conference, then again on video conference in February 2022.
