Earlier today, Bishop Silvester S. Beaman arrived at the international airport in Cape Town, South Africa to take up physical residence in the 15th Episcopal District. He is the first newly elected bishop assigned to a District outside of the United States to be able to travel to his assignment.

The global COVID-19 pandemic has made international travel difficult. Only only Bishop Paul Kawimbe, Presiding Prelate of the 14th Episcopal District, has been able to travel after the 2021 General Conference before pandemic restrictions curtailed travel again.

Several dozen persons representing the clergy, Lay Organization, WMS, and YPD arrived to greet him singing a chorus from the hymn "Give a Thought to Africa" as is the tradition in South Africa and several other countries. Upon his arrival at the airport, Bishop Beaman stated, "I am home. I am an African in America. Never would I ever have thought that I would be the bishop of the [15th Episcopal District]."
