E-ssentials: An Open Letter from the Anti-Racism Common Table, PIE Day 2022, and more.

Opposing Symbols of Hate in Protests

A counter-protest in Ottawa on February 12, 2022.

In this open letter, the United Church's Anti-Racism Common Table expresses deep concerns about the display of racist symbols that have been on display at demonstrations occurring across the country.

PIE Day 2022

Still from the Moderator's PIE day video. He is standing behind a kitchen counter, a rainbow candle in front of him alongside a pie and a wooden cross.

Moderator Richard Bott invites you to join in the celebration of PIE Day on March 14!

PIE Day is a day to think about all the people the letters 2S and LGBTQIA+ represent, and how we respond to the call to be "Public, Intentional, and Explicit" in our affirmation. You can find worship resources and more information about the day here.

Hopeful Economics UnConference

https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-united-church-of-canada/events/hopeful-economics-unconference/

Hopeful economics is a way of looking at the assets and abundance of the world and making that work for everyone. An UnConference occurs when topics and discussions are informed by the people who show up! During this two-day unConference we will tackle the following together:
  • How to see the abundance and hope
  • Active listening and translating what we are hearing and seeing
  • How to build collaboration through our commonalities
  • Leaning into the problem
  • Connecting with others across North America and in your neighborhood
Pricing: $20 per person. We are so committed to new connections being formed that we guarantee your ticket price and will refund it if you do not connect with someone new! Find out more, and register.

Call for Nominations

Call for nominations! The Board of Vocation, its committees, and commissions seek both ministers and lay people to be a part of the important work of developing and sustaining excellence in professional ministry. Express your interest in getting involved or nominate someone else for these or other current opportunities to serve. Find out more.

Reminder: Annual Declaration

2022 annual declarations for ministry personnel are now open, until May 15, 2022. It’s free and only takes a few minutes. Log in to churchhub.ca (Remember that Chrome or Edge are preferred browsers for ChurchHub; Safari is not optimal). If you make your annual declaration (about whether you’ve had criminal charges in the last year or not) each year, you do not need to get a new police records check!

Need help accessing ChurchHub? Please contact ministry@united-church.ca.
