Celebrate International Development Week!
The United Church celebrates International Development Week, February 6‒12, by lifting up stories of global Mission & Service partners. International Development Week focuses on sustainable development and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a shared plan for building a healthier future for people and the planet by 2030. As we head into the third year of a global pandemic, as well as the ever-increasing effects of climate change, achieving the SDGs has become more important than ever. Join us this week as we share stories from across the church about our collaboration with Mission & Service partners in work that addresses poverty, hunger, climate change, justice and peace, health, and education on a global and local scale. For more information on how your community of faith can learn more, participate, and #goforthegoals! follow the United Action for Justice Facebook page and Stories of Our Faith. United Church Bookstore: Reflections on Emancipation
Reflections on Emancipation is a great way to engage with Black History Month. A collection of pieces by theologians, historians, and pastors from Canada, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean, and the USA, the book reflects on the relevance of celebrating the abolition of slavery in Canada. Unfortunately, many Canadians are not aware of the history of chattel slavery in their country. This book raises awareness of the history of African enslavement and the legacies of slavery in Canada. Pick up your copy today from the United Church Bookstore.
