The Abortion Pill

by PPL Board Member Patricia Lee June, M.D.

“For you formed my inward parts;

you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

Psalm 139:13-14

“Chemical” vs “Surgical” Abortion: Is there a difference?

While the techniques of chemical and surgical abortions differ, all induced abortions* begin with a living mother and a child living within her (children in the case of twins, etc) and intentionally kill that child. In the sight of God, does it matter whether the killing is caused by a poison or by suction machine or forceps? How can the method make a difference? In either case, a human made in the image of God is destroyed.

Ideas for Life Teams

Celebrate Mother's Day with Baby Showers

Years ago, the Pittsburgh Chapter of PPL launched an annual project called Precious Life Baby Showers. 30 PCUSA congregations participated by putting a crib or box in the church foyer or fellowship hall and asking members to bring gifts of baby clothing, furniture, diapers, and other items during a 3-6 week period. Items were then collected by chapter members and distributed to pregnancy centers in the area. One of those churches chose to wrap the gifts. Women of the church then gathered in a home for a traditional Baby Shower inviting two pregnancy center leaders to attend and open the gifts on behalf of their clients in need.

Two new events with similar intent have come to the attention of PPL this year. It's probably too late to plan for this Mother's day, but these ideas for sharing with mothers in need could be implemented any time of year or put on your life team's list of events for 2022.

All of these ideas celebrate mothers and engage congregation members. A baby shower is a practical way to share with mothers in need as they give life to their babies.

New City Presbyterian (PCA) in Celina, TX has set up an Amazon baby registry with a goal of equipping 4 women and their babies. Purchases are made online and shipped to the church where gifts will be delivered to a designated mother or pregnancy center.

Westminster PCA, Lancaster, PA (whose flyer picture is posted above) has set up a display in the fellowship hall for 3 weeks. Members pick up a cutout onesie listing an item that they agree to purchase and return to the church by Mother's Day. Gifts will be divided between 2 pregnancy centers and delivered by volunteers.

Information about the life team ministry and local pregnancy centers is also available at the display.
