New Church New Way January 2021

NCNW Banner
Happy New Year!

As we enter 2021 with both renewed hope and lingering grief and anxiety, the network and leaders of new worshiping communities continue to lead us forward with courage, challenge, inspiration and wonder. If you could use a good dose of any of those, keep reading for a guaranteed shot of inspiration.

Have you listened lately to the 1001 "New Way" podcast? Host Sara Hayden assembled a beautiful set of interviews for the Advent season, including a very special conversation with her 7-year-old son, Sam. A new season of podcasts will launch this month, and watch for our Lenten episodes beginning in mid-February, where our guests will explore what it’s like to be in the wilderness and how these experiences shape our faith. Check out our entire podcast archive at https://www.newchurchnewway.org/season-2-1 and subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.

Also watch this video to discover how to welcome people who often feel excluded. It’s a fascinating interview with two NWC leaders who use very different methods to create community among people often left out of corporate worship gatherings.

And read this story about "Voices of Jubile" at here. This NWC began as a gospel choir in a Virginia juvenile correctional center — and now encourages and inspires incarcerated youth.

As you can see, the 1001 movement continues to grow and flourish reaching new people with the love and grace of God, challenging historical injustice, building understanding and hopeful relationships. These new communities exist through the generosity of faithful Presbyterians across generations. Will you join their support by making a financial gift at https://www.presbyterianmission.org/donate/e052128/ to further our ministry together?

Below are some of our training events that we’ve been able to create for NWC leaders thanks to your generosity.

Blessings on this New Year — 2021. And thank you!

Racism & Organizing 101

Racism is a frequent topic of discussion, but we often we often differ in our understandings of what racism really is. The 1001 team is excited to partner with The Open Table, a NWC in Heartland Presbytery to provide an opportunity for NWC leaders to build a common working definition of racism so that we can work together to dismantle systemic racism in all its forms. Learn more about the training on Feb. 24, from 7–9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

This online course (and in-person course eventually) covers all of the critical topics of gathering and equipping leaders, defining and articulating your mission, developing budgets and funding strategies, testing your ideas, and developing sustainable rhythms of rest and work and play. Accelerators are offered in several formats in English and in Spanish. The first English cohort begins on Feb. 14, with the Spanish Accelerator cohort starting on April 12.
