Holy Week with More Light

"I'm pretty sure I've grasped the meaning of Lent for this year."
Over the last month, I've chuckled at a number of the social media posts put up by friends and colleagues. Grateful for the chance to laugh, I've appreciated the random thoughts and observations shared by folks as we all struggle to navigate this wholly unfamiliar territory of living through a global pandemic. Many of these observations have been equally funny and poignant, and if there were ever a season of Lent when we'd all get a deeper grasp of our finitude, I feel confident this would be it.
During the season of Lent we are invited to remember that we came from dust and we will return to dust. In the scope of an eternal God and creation - our skin and bones, our families and relationships, the small glimpses of grace and even the monumental struggles we experience - they are all fleeting reminders of both our finitude and our interconnectedness. If we learn anything from this journey, my prayer this Holy Week is that we are able to see more clearly the ways we are belong to one another.
Over the last month, we've been working to assess ways to be helpful and supportive of all those in the More Light community as we move through COVID-19. We've been planting seeds, so to speak, trying a variety of things to see what grows. For Holy Week, we are offering the events below, and will continue updating our website as we see which seeds grow. If you have any additional ideas or particular needs, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We have a number of Liberation Bible Study episodes on our site from the first season of the podcast. The first season’s episodes were recorded during Lent, Holy Week, and Eastertide 2018. Additionally, Alex will be in conversation with Jessica Vazquez Torres and Lydia Tembo for two editions of Liberation Bible Study Live.
We are offering weekly check-ins for clergy and pastoral caregivers on Thursdays at 3pm ET (2pm CT, 1pm MT, 12pm PT) . This is a space where people can share space, get support, and exhale. If you’d like to participate, sign up here.
In addition, we will also be holding Communion via Facebook Live on Thursday, April 9, at 4pm ET.
If you haven’t already, check out Ashes to Rainbows: A Queer Lenten Devotional. This collaboration with Justice Unbound has offered us sustenance through this unexpectedly tumultuous Lenten season, and we hope it will do the same for you.
In the midst of it all, may you remember your finitude as it illustrates belovedness and, even more, as we all learn the ways in which we are all in this messiness together.
In deepest peace and solidarity,
Jess Cook
