What to do if giving is down
Do you know your top givers?
by J. Clif Christopher
One day a pastor called me and was a bit distressed. Giving to church operations was down from the previous year. He asked if he could send me a letter to review that he was considering sending to the congregation about the shortfall.  READ MORE
Gratitude campaign
Do you have a plan for giving?
by Kent Millard
Congregations have financial challenges. I discover that many of them have no plan for giving and don’t want anyone to talk about pledging or being generous in support of God’s work. They simply receive an offering every Sunday and hope that it will be enough to cover their expenses. But as the congregation declines in membership, income goes down and they have to go to a part-time pastor and reduce their mission giving because they don’t have the necessary resources.  READ MORE
roots of generosity
Scriptural roots of generosity
by Robert Schnase
Scripture is replete with examples and teachings that focus on possessions, wealth, giving, gifts, generosity, offerings, charity, sacrifice, and sharing with those in need. Giving is central to Jewish and Christian practice because people perceive God as extravagantly generous, the giver of every good gift, the source of life and love. People give because they serve a giving God. READ MORE

In Case You Missed It: Learn with Stewardship Experts March 2nd

Meet our Presenters and Preview the Workshops

On March 2, the Presbyterian Foundation will present a Day of Learning covering practical tools for stewardship and financial sustainability.

8:30 a.m. PST/11:30 a.m. EST - Church Mission and Sustainability with Stephen Keizer and Rev. Gail Monsma

Ensuring the long-term viability of your church mission in the face of evolving cultural pressures means it is important for churches to develop creative and comprehensive stewardship programs.

This workshop will provide ideas for creating a culture of generosity through a comprehensive stewardship program. We will talk about how people give, donor motivation, how to craft your mission story, leadership’s role in stewardship, provide giving tools as well as discuss how planned giving fits into a stewardship.

11:00 a.m PST/2:00 p.m. EST - Virtual Campaigns and Online Giving with Rev. Ellie Johns-Kelley and Karl Mattison

2020 forced everything into a distanced and virtual environment. Stewardship included. There are some blessings in disguise. Join us to call out some of the most important lessons learned for conducting efficient and effective stewardship campaigns. In this seminar, we will share the top 5 features that we can leverage from a virtual stewardship campaign and how we can effectively use these tools going forward. The pandemic has been a miserable experience, but let’s grasp and grow from lessons learned.

2:30 p.m. PST/5:30 p.m. EST - Practical Tips for Church Budgeting with Olanda Carr and Rev. Dr. Jonah So

In this workshop we will cover the basic items to consider when creating a church budget. An overview of the various types of church budgets – zero-based, program, line-item, and narrative – will be provided. Additional time will be allocated to the narrative budgeting process, including beginning steps and resources.

How Faith Shapes our Financial Health

Meet Presenter Bonnie Ives Marden
Week two of the Stewardship Kaleidoscope virtual conference this year features Bonnie Ives Marden, a leadership consultant and financial stewardship practitioner. Bonnie provides stewardship education through multiple United Methodist Foundations and is the author of Church Finances for Missional Leaders.
Bonnie will lead us in considering how our own faith shapes our relationship to stewardship and church finance and will provide best practice tips for church financial management. After the presentation, there will be a live question and answer period where we can explore further how to be the best possible financial stewards for our faith communities.
