UNITE - December 2025

Welcome to our last edition of UNITE 2025.

WEA wishes you all a Happy New Year 2026

Bishop Efraim M. Tendero, WEA Global Ambassador, offers a timely and hope-filled reflection as believers step into the year ahead. Extending warm greetings to the global Christian community, he emphasizes that true confidence for the future is found not in circumstances but in the sovereign Lord Jesus Christ. Drawing from Colossians 1:17, Bishop Tendero reminds that Christ is before all things and that in Him all things hold together—an enduring assurance in an uncertain world. His message invites believers to begin the year with renewed faith, steadfast trust, and a deep confidence that God remains firmly in control, guiding His people with purpose and grace.

With the theme of Gospel for Everyone by 2033 for our General Assembly, we had a wonderful and historic time together in Seoul, South Korea from 27th to 31st October.

Together Forming the Light of the Gospel

On the opening day of the World Evangelical Alliance’s General Assembly in Seoul, Dr. Goodwill Shana (WEA Executive Chair) connected the theme of ‘Living out the Gospel’ in unity through a powerful metaphor:

“Something beautiful is unfolding in Korea. We are seeing greater unity in the evangelical church, and this speaks directly to the theme we want to focus on today: ‘Let there be light – unity in diversity.’

Our reference Scripture is Genesis 1:3. In the Hebrew Bible, it contains only seven words: ‘And God said, Let there be light, and there was light.’

“We Are One Family”: Evangelicals Gathering in Korea Reflects Majority-World Movement

In a powerful display of global Evangelical unity, delegates from 124 countries gathered at the SaRang Church auditorium in Seoul for the World Evangelical Alliance General Assembly 2025, witnessing a moving procession of flags representing 161 nations.

The gathering visually confirms what data now proves: evangelicalism has become a majority-world movement, with 70% of its 650 million adherents residing in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

“The future of Christianity is already here—and has been for 45 years,” declared Jason Mandryk of Operation World, presenting research showing evangelicals have grown from 8% of global Christianity in 1960 to over 25% today. “Most people alive today were born into a world where Christianity is already a majority-world movement. The notion of Christianity as a white man’s religion is rapidly shrinking in the rear-view mirror.”

World Evangelical Alliance Spotlights Christian Persecution at General Assembly

Ahead of the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP 2025) on 2 November 2025, when millions united in prayer for the 380 million Christians facing persecution worldwide, the World Evangelical Alliance’s (WEA) General Assembly in Seoul heard disturbing testimonies of calculated gender-based religious violence targeting Christian communities globally.

The morning session examined persecution’s impact on women, children, and men. International advocates exposed how violence is deliberately weaponized against Christian women to divide church communities and dismantle family structures across minority Christian populations.

Opportunity to Pray and Give

We hope you had a good Christmas and wish you a happy New Year.

As we come to the close of another year, we are reminded that Christmas arrives not only with celebration but with a message of profound hope. In a world that often feels fragile—marked by fear, conflict, and crisis—this season calls us back to the unshakable promise of Emmanuel: God with us.

Every week, we witness communities broken by disaster, families displaced by conflict, and nations struggling under the weight of uncertainty. Perhaps this past year has held moments of heaviness for you as well.

  • Pray for God’s protection, comfort, and provision for all those affected by natural calamities in Jamaica, Philippines, and Sri Lanka, especially the most vulnerable and those who have suffered loss. Pray also for wisdom and strength for leaders, responders, and churches as they bring relief, hope, and restoration to impacted communities.

  • Pray for the more than 100,000 refugees fleeing violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo into Burundi, that God would protect them, sustain them, and provide urgently needed shelter, food, clean water, medical care, and emotional healing. Pray for the Government of Burundi, humanitarian agencies, and the Church to respond with wisdom, compassion, and coordinated support for these vulnerable families.

  • Pray for displaced families affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan and South Sudan, that God would provide food, shelter, and essential resources, and restore hope and stability to those already sheltered in churches and schools. Pray for the Evangelical Alliance of South Sudan and its partners, that despite limited funding they may be connected with willing supporters and equipped with wisdom and resources to respond effectively to the immense humanitarian needs.

Every gift you give strengthens local churches—the people who know their communities best—to respond with compassion, courage, and the hope of Christ.

As we reflect on God’s faithfulness during this Christmas season and look ahead to the New Year, we are reminded of the mission Jesus declared at the beginning of His ministry:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind. To set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Luke 4:18-19

Give Hope. Give Strength. Give the Gospel.
