| Cyclone Freddy aid reaches Madagascar | | MAPUTO, Mozambique (UM News) — Members of the first United Methodist church in Madagascar stepped up to be the hands and feet of Jesus for people devastated by Cyclone Freddy earlier this year. Nine volunteers traveled more than 300 miles to distribute food to families affected by the deadly storm. The aid was purchased with grant money from the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Africa University graduates its largest class | MUTARE, Zimbabwe (UM News) — More than 950 students from 19 countries received degrees during Africa University’s 29th graduation ceremony, with women representing 60% of the class of 2023. The United Methodist university also saw the graduation of Collins Prempeh, the first Deaf student from the Institute of Theology and Religious Studies. Jeanette Dadzie reports.

Texas Conference Pastor blesses animals as part of eventful first year
| VAN VLECK, Texas — In his rookie year as pastor of two small, rural United Methodist churches, the Rev. William Murphree focused on outreach, including holding a blessing of the animals. He drew not just dogs and cats but a surprise trailer-load of Brahman bulls. One of Murphree’s churches considered disaffiliating but decided against it.
