Greetings, siblings in Christ!
With the deadline quickly approaching, we are still accepting applications for the 2023–24 YAV year. We encourage you or any young adults that you encounter to apply before our June 1 deadline. Sites are filling up quickly, but young adults can still serve at Tucson, Chinook, New Orleans, South Korea and Colombia! |
This service year will look a little different from past years with two new changes. This year we welcome Scottish YAVs who will serve at our New Orleans and New York sites and Mexican YAVs who will serve at our binational site in Tucson, Arizona/Agua Prieta, Mexico. We are excited about the ways our program continues to offer opportunities to young adults from different walks of life. |
We want to highlight that the Tucson/Agua Prieta YAV Borderlands site just celebrated their 20th anniversary this past April! It was great to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this site in person with other Louisville YAV staff, the national site coordinator, YAV alums, the Tucson board, and others from the Tucson and Agua Prieta communities. After the conclusion of the 20th anniversary celebration, a small delegation containing Louisville YAV staff, the Tucson site coordinator and YAV alums traveled to Agua Prieta to engage with partners along the Douglas/Agua Prieta border. Hearing the stories of how partners in Mexico remain faithful to do God’s mission within the world by supporting migrant families demonstrates the Matthew 25 vision that Christ calls us to live into. If you are interested in learning more about the work that is being done at the Tucson/Agua Prieta YAV Borderlands site, please visit this website: tucsonborderlandsyav.org.

YAV looks to change the world |
Yuriko Beltran doesn’t ask for much – just an opportunity to change the world. Which is why she entered the YAV program. Beltran is a native of Peru and served there in her tenure in part due to gifts received through the Pentecost Offering. |
Young adults given voice by PC(USA) Co-Moderator |
Several young adults were given voice to lament their opportunity to influence the future of the church they will inherit at the recent Commission on the Status of Women gathering. The Rev. Shavon Starling-Louis opened the frank discussion of ideas. |
YAVs encouraged to DARE |
Activists, practitioners, students and scholars are invited to propose papers for presentation at the Council of World Mission’s Discernment and Radical Engagement (DARE) global forum Sept. 13-16 in Bangkok, Thailand. Their website has presentation themes and instructions for presenting. The deadline for submissions is May 26. |
“Just Talk Live” episode focuses on reproductive justice |
Toni Bond and Margaret Kamitsuka discussed the importance of faith community involvement in reproductive justice during a recent Just Talk Live episode, co-hosted by the Rev. Lee Catoe and Destini Hodges. Watch on Facebook or YouTube. |

Stay connected with YAV alums |
Are you a former YAV? If you haven’t already join the YAV Alum Network. We often get requests for alums to speak about the program to college groups, congregations, and other gatherings. |
Financial support for the YAV program |
Please consider giving to the YAV program through a monthly or one-time gift to care for young adults engaged in “a year of service for a lifetime of change.” |
The Young Adult Volunteer program, a ministry of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is an ecumenical, one-year service opportunity for young adults ages 19 to 30. For nearly three decades, YAVs have listened for God’s call in their lives, while serving alongside partners at sites in the United States and around the world. YAVs live in intentional Christian communities developing and deepening their faith through service. Learn more about this transformative year at youngadultvolunteers.org. |
Spreading the Vision of Matthew 25 across the Church |
The PC(USA) believes that we are called to serve Jesus by contributing to the well-being of the most vulnerable in all societies – rural and urban, small and large, young and not-so-young. From affordable housing to community gardens to equitable educational and employment opportunities to healing from addiction and mental illness to enacting policy change – there is not just one way to be a part of the Matthew 25 movement. |
