At a recent gathering of Presbyterians hosted by 1001 and the New Church Development Commission of the Greater Atlanta Presbytery, we explored this kitchen magic as we tried to figure out “What’s the Secret Sauce?” when it comes to partnering with and learning from the immigrant communities from around the world who now call the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) home. Starting a new recipe, a new worshiping community or a new partnership takes trust. We must trust the techniques shared with us, the people who join us, and the vision of inclusion we desire, even as we add spice and innovate, making new feasts and new communities in God’s image.
At 1001, we seek to foster a spirit of entrustment. We seek to support leaders and communities that are putting their trust in the God that does a new thing! We put our confidence and our resources into new leaders and new communities because we see the way they are committing to one another and to the Spirit.
This newsletter highlights some of the takeaways from our Secret Sauce conference and our recent spiritual formation gatherings so that you too may participate in these tables of trust, and we hope you will join us soon at these places of communion that 1001 sets.
I hope as you read and taste what 1001 has to offer that you are challenged to try something new, to see in a new way the people who are bringing joy and life to the church we share, and to add a new leaf to both the dining and the governance tables that shape who we are together. We will all be richer for it.
