Sharing Some Ghost Ranch Spring Updates

image

THANK YOU FOR LOVING US
AGAIN AND AGAIN!

Spring Appeal Update

Your generous donations, love and support bring life and renewal to Ghost Ranch. Our 2022 Springtime fundraising goal is shaping up to be the best yet, leading us off to an auspicious year!

Every contribution has an impact on the sustainability of the ranch and makes a difference to all who receive the gifts that Ghost Ranch gives - tranquil, safe space; iconic landscapes and opportunities to learn and grow. We are stronger together and would not be here without your generosity and giving spirit.

With Great Gratitude

Ghost Ranch continues to be gifted by our friends' time and talents. Art Myers, his son Dan, and daughter Kim along with Debbie and Don Herron worked over a week to build this new shade structure out by the waterfront area. Laurie Magoon is delighted to report that the structure is up and we'll soon get two picnic tables out there so folks can enjoy our Abiquiu Lake waterfront activities even more.

A Volunteer
With A Passion For Life

Rosemary Kazans, volunteer-in- residence, is back for a multi-month stay helping people who call in. As you can imagine, everyone is grateful to have a real person answer the phone. Rosemary's journey to the ranch is featured in an article by Annie Harper in the June 2022 Issue of Paisley Magazine. Read more about why Rosemary loves Ghost Ranch.

Hospitality Training and Staff Building

This past February, March and April staff gathered together weekly to engage in Disney Hospitality Training sessions. Carol Ho noted that with many new staff members on board since then, we are anxious to resume.

This past Tuesday, our new Human Resources Director, Cherri Metzger led us in our season kickoff all-staff meeting with a focus on communication.

And yes, we celebrated with Ghost Ranch cookies and homemade brownies.

Virtual &
In-Person Workshops

Offering thirteen virtual workshops Seth Eriksen kept folks connected to Ghost Ranch January through May.

Our traditional three week January Term hosted a mix of traditional college students along with lifelong learners.

Mini intervals of workshops were held in February, March and April, and May saw us nearly full with Bluegrass Camp and other workshop participants.

The Literally Letters Calligraphy Festival along with other art workshops just finished up. Both new and returning guests are talking about the friendly staff.

JOIN US IN JULY
THERE IS STILL SPACE

FAMILY WEEK, July 3-8 There is a little more room for families in the intergenerational Family Week if you are willing to camp. This week includes daily mini-workshops, memory-making, and 4th of July fun. Choose a different activity every morning to participate in as a family. Each ‘class’ is designed to be finished in one morning and is accessible to ages 4 and up. The presence of an adult is necessary.

FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS - WEEKS 1 & 2, July 10-16 and July 17-23 Only camping remains as lodging for these two weeks. If camping isn't your thing, you are welcome to stay off-ranch and join us for the workshops - register as a commuter.

FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS - WEEK 3, July 24-29 - Limited lodging remains for this five-night week of workshops.

NEW OFFERINGS

Whether you come for the day, for a workshop or for another event being held at the ranch, we have some new offerings.

  • BODYWORK Take time for your self-care. More massage sessions are now available.
  • SOUND HEALING Instruments are used to bring you into a state of deep relaxation and encourage your energy flow. Individual and private group sessions can be booked.
  • GUIDED HIKES As the US Forest Service closures have most of the longer hiking trails closed, morning guided hikes have been added utilizing trails that are solely on Ghost Ranch property.
  • WATERFRONT ACTIVITIES Take a kayak or canoe out on Abiquiu lake scheduled earlier or later in the day when there is less wind and calm waters.
  • TRAIL RIDES Afternoon and sunset trail rides are being replaced with more morning ride opportunities to protect wranglers, guests, and horses from the higher afternoon and evening temperatures. Make sure to check the calendars as the schedule changes.
  • TOURS These are extra popular so more O'Keeffe Landscape tours are being added. Make sure to check the calendars as the schedule changes.
  • PAINT OUT OPPORTUNITY Sketch the Desert Tour - This tour takes us out into the landscape that Georgia O’Keeffe loved to paint with post-tour time to paint on your own.

Community News

It has come to our attention that not all of the Ghost Ranch community learned of the March passing of former employee Gary Salazar. Gary lived and worked at the ranch for 20-plus years. He loved people and provided more than hospitality to the Ghost Ranch community. He will be missed by many.

Our deepest sympathy to his mother Grippie, Sabino, Debbie and all of the Salazar Family.
