Human Rights Defenders Roundtable


Human Rights and Accountability: Non-Negotiable banner

What harms do Canadian companies inflict on communities and workers around the world? What are impacted communities asking of Canadians and of the Canadian government? Why do we need stronger corporate accountability laws in Canada?

On Wednesday, April 27, at 11:00 a.m. ET, the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability will host three courageous leaders in the defence of human rights, workers’ rights, and the environment to speak to these questions and give testimony to the realities they are facing:

  • Kalpona Akter, Director, Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity (Dhaka, Bangladesh)
  • Reverend Emmanuel Chikoya, General Secretary, Council of Churches in Zambia (Lusaka, Zambia) and Mission & Service partner of The United Church of Canada.
  • Josefina Tunki, President, Shuar Arutam People (PSHA) (Sucúa, Ecuador)

Mental Health Awareness Week 

 

 

What does it mean to be a congregation that talks frankly and without judgement about mental health? What can we learn from our Christian traditions that will help people move towards wholeness? Who in our congregations needs particular attention, and what resources are available through the church to help us offer that attention?

May 2‒8 is Mental Health Awareness Week in Canada, and for the second year, the United Church will mark Mental Health Sunday on May 1. Join United in Learning for the next Creating Space for Mental Health and Well-Being webinars: Blessed Youth: Supporting Children and Youth Mental Health on Tuesday, April 26, at 7:00 pm. ET, and Mental Health WISE Church: Communities of Faith as Places of Welcome, Inclusion, and Support on Tuesday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Mental Health and Wellness Worship Resources are created in partnership with the Mental Health Network of the United Church of Christ, the United Church of Christ, and The United Church of Canada.
