UC National News 18-24 August - Acting on Afghanistan, COVID prayers, Act2 - taking the pulse, Discipleship gets messy and more

Urgent action needed to protect lives in Afghanistan

The Uniting Church in Australia has joined others in calling on the Australian Government to show leadership and compassion in its response to the Afghanistan crisis.

The Assembly is one of more than 300 organisations who have signed a letter to all Federal MPs and Senators urging them to take seven practical actions to help provide safety for those fleeing the danger, including additional settlement places for Afghan refugees and permanent protection for those in Australia.

“We hold in our prayers the people of Afghanistan who long for peace after decades of armed conflict, and we pray for the safety and security of all Afghan people in this latest crisis,” said UCA President Rev Sharon Hollis.

National Day of Prayer for those impacted by COVID

This Sunday 22 August Uniting Church members are invited to join together in a National Day of Prayer, both lamenting together and sharing God's hope for communities and people impacted by COVID-19.
We share a collection of prayers from Uniting Church members and some of our Church partners whose communities are suffering from the pandemic.

Discipleship gets Messy

Since its introduction to Australia in 2010, Messy Church has thrived as a creative, practical model for local congregations and communities seeking to nurture faith and build relationships across generations. As we continue our series on being an Integenerational Church, we look at how Messy Church is growing disciples through creativity and connection.
