You're invited to the 4th Alvin Dixon Memorial Walk/Run, a beloved triennial event that brings United Church people together across the country. This year, it’s also an official part of General Council 45 in Calgary — but no matter where you are, you can take part.

The event officially begins August 10, 2025, and you can participate throughout August, choosing your own distance, route, and time. Whether you walk, run, roll, or simply donate, you'll be supporting a vital cause.

All funds raised go directly to the Alvin Dixon Memorial Bursary Fund, which provides financial assistance to Indigenous students pursuing higher education. This fund keeps alive the powerful legacy of Alvin Dixon (1937-2014), a residential school survivor and dedicated advocate for Indigenous youth and education.

How you can get involved:

  • Organize a walk/run with your Community of Faith or group.
  • Participate individually or with a friend.
  • Sponsor a participant or group.
  • Make a direct contribution to the fund.

Your support helps empower the next generation of Indigenous leaders.

Mission and Service: Offset Your Travel!

[Image credit: The United Church of Canada]

As we travel, we're aware of our carbon footprint. Here's a powerful way to offset it: by supporting communities in Kenya who are on the front lines of climate change.

Your gift to Mission and Service supports the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) working directly with communities in Kitui County. They're implementing effective nature-based solutions – from teaching sustainable beekeeping and biodiversity use for livelihoods, to vital land and water management like tree-planting and creating shade to conserve water in the soil.

This program strengthens communities, increases food security, and promotes sustainable safety nets to withstand climate shocks, directly engaging farmers, young mothers, churches, and schools. This initiative engages 3,200 participants and positively impact the lives of 11,200 people.

This vital work is done in partnership with The United Church of Canada and the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Join us in making a tangible difference for our planet and its people.

Suggested donations based on flight duration and emissions:
  • $15 Short haul roundtrip (1- 3 hour) flight
  • $25 Medium haul roundtrip (3 - 6 hour) flight
  • $50 Long haul roundtrip (6 – 9 hour) flight
